Grace Chapel

Order of Service

Follow along with us on Sunday.

What to expect

Every Sunday 10 AM to 11 AM

Our worship is simple and centered on God’s Word: prayer, confession and forgiveness, hymns, Scripture, a sermon, and a creed we say together. On Communion Sundays we also share the Lord’s Supper. Come as you are — you don’t need to know the words. Just follow along below.

Words in bold are said together by everyone. Hymns are from The Celebration Hymnal.

Sunday Worship

Sing a new song to the Lord! Sing to the Lord, all the world! Sing to the Lord, and praise him! Proclaim every day the good news that he has saved us.

Psalm 96:1-2

Invocation

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen

If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Let us confess our sins to God our Father.

Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways to the glory of your holy name. Amen.

Almighty God in his mercy has given his Son to die for you and for his sake forgives you all your sins. To those who believe on his name he gives power to become the children of God and has promised them his Holy Spirit. Therefore, as a called and ordained servant of the Word, I announce the forgiveness of all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and the Holy Spirit.

He that believes and is baptized shall be saved. Grant this, Lord, unto us all.

The Lord be with you.

And also with you.

Sermon

Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting, Amen.

Hymn

Prayers of the Church

O Lord, heavenly Father, receive our prayers, deliver and preserve us, for to you alone we give all glory, honor, and worship.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Communion Service

Used on Communion Sundays, when we share the Lord’s Supper together.

Give thanks to the Lord, proclaim his greatness; tell the nations what he has done. Sing praise to the Lord; tell the wonderful things he has done. Be glad that we belong to him; let all who worship him rejoice. Go to the Lord for help; and worship him continually.

Psalm 105:1-4

Invocation

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen

Opening Hymn

Father of mercies and God of all consolation, come to the aid of your people, turning us from our sin to live for you alone. Give us the power of your Holy Spirit that we may attend to your Word, confess our sins, receive your forgiveness, and grow into the fullness of your Son Jesus Christ, our Lord and our Redeemer.

Amen

Dearly beloved, since it is our intention to come to the Holy Supper of our Lord Jesus Christ, it is proper that we diligently examine ourselves as St. Paul tells us to do, for this Holy Sacrament has been instituted for the special comfort and strengthening of those who humbly confess their sins and hunger and thirst for righteousness.

But if we thus examine ourselves, we shall find nothing in us but sin and death, from which we cannot set ourselves free. Therefore, our Lord Jesus Christ has had mercy on us and has taken on himself our nature that he might fulfill for us the whole will and law of God and for us and for our deliverance suffer death and all that we by our sins have deserved. And that we should even more confidently believe this and be strengthened by our faith in cheerful obedience to his holy will, he has instituted the Holy Sacrament of his Supper, in which he feeds us with his body and gives us to drink of his blood.

Therefore, whoever eats of this bread and drinks of this cup, firmly believing the words of Christ, dwells in Christ and Christ in him, and has eternal life.

We should do this also in remembrance of him, showing his death, that he was delivered for our offenses and raised again for our justification and, giving him our most hearty thanks, take up our cross and follow him and according to his commandment love one another as he has loved us. For we are all one body, even as we all eat of his body and drink of his blood.

Humble yourselves before God, confess your sins to him, and implore his forgiveness.

O Almighty God, merciful Father, I, a poor miserable sinner, confess to you all my sins and iniquities with which I have ever offended you and justly deserve your punishment now and forever. But I am heartily sorry for them and sincerely repent of them, and I pray you of your boundless mercy and for the sake of the holy, innocent, bitter sufferings and death of your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to be gracious and merciful to me, a poor sinful being. Forgive me all my sins and grant me the power of your Holy Spirit that I may amend my sinful life.

In the stead and by the command of my Lord Jesus Christ. I announce the forgiveness of all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen

The Lord be with you.

And also with you.

Sermon

Nicene Creed

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, only-begotten Son of God, begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate.

He suffered and was buried. And the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And he will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son together, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.
